District 2 member Kalla Hughley will receive the Bronze Medal of Honor from the national organization One Voice United.

Hughley, a Probation and Parole Officer, saved the life of a juvenile who was shot at a Juneteenth celebration in Asheville in 2023.

SEANC Prison Safety Committee Chairwoman Deborah Harney noted in her nomination that "Officer Hughley made a makeshift tourniquet to stop the victim from bleeding out. That saved the life of the teenager."

Hughley will receive the honor at a ceremony in Chicago in late April.
