SEANC Cares and SEANC Votes!
Nov 11, 2022
EMPAC-endorsed candidates fared well in this week's Midterm Elections, with 21 of 27 of them winning their races. Republicans were able to secure a supermajority in the N.C. Senate, but fell just one seat short in the House.
Though final turnout numbers have yet to be released, more than 75% of our members voted before Tuesday, and we likely set a new record for a midterm.
"SEANC members proved once again that SEANC cares and SEANC votes. Even before Election Day, we had turned out in droves. As a result, we propelled 78% of EMPAC-endorsed candidates to victory, including every single one of the legislative candidates we supported," SEANC Executive Director Ardis Watkins said in a statement. "Though we were disappointed in the outcomes of several races, most notably SEANC member Cheri Beasley’s bid for the US Senate, we’re encouraged that so many state employees and retirees made their voices heard."
SEANC looks forward to working with the new General Assembly when it starts the long session in January.
