Successful membership recruitment key to SEANC

Aug 15, 2014

Ron_Fields_scoop.jpgMembership is SEANC’s lifeblood, and over the last two weeks, SEANC has seen an upswing in successful recruitment efforts.

Since the end of July, SEANC has welcomed more than 170 new members into its fold – members who realize the importance of effectively advocating for themselves and the vital public services they provide.

One of the highlights of this recent effort was in District 12, where a membership blitz held on Aug. 5-7. This was a joint effort between members in the district and SEANC staff. Between them, they blanketed state offices in District 12, signing up 50 members.

Then, this week in Cumberland County, recruiting all-star Ron Fields of District 20, brought his goal of 300 new members this year within his sights. He expects he will meet and hopefully even surpass that goal within the next couple of weeks.

Recruiting new members is vital to SEANC and it's something that every current member can take part in doing. Whether it's helping to organize your own district blitz, your own worksite campaign or even just talking one-on-one to your friends and co-workers, each of us can help tell SEANC's story.

All state employees and retirees should want to be a part of SEANC. Not only do we offer great benefits, discounts and insurance opportunities, but more importantly, we are advocates for pay raises, cost-of-living adjustments, better benefits and workplace protections. And in fact, a recent survey found that when non-members know more about what SEANC has to offer, they are likely to decide to join.

But it's up to us to tell them about us.

If you're unsure what to say, visit www.seanc.org to educate yourself on all that SEANC does and offers. If you would like to organize your own district or workplace event, call our Member Action Director Lynn Cote at 919-833-6436 or email her at lcote@seanc.org.

And remember, recruit, recruit, recruit!
