EMPAC announces endorsements for Governor, Council of State
Aug 26, 2024
EMPAC, the political action committee of the State Employees Association of North Carolina (SEANC), announced today its endorsements for Council of State in the upcoming election, including Josh Stein for Governor.
Stein has proven that he is a champion for working families and is ready to take on the state's leadership. As attorney general, he has shown a willingness to work with SEANC on several employee-related issues. His opponent did not respond to multiple requests for interviews from the Statewide EMPAC Committee.
EMPAC endorsed Wesley Harris for State Treasurer in the primary election and will continue to support him in the general race. Oversight of the State Health Plan and the state retirement system makes the State Treasurer’s office extremely important to state employees and retirees.
Other Council of State endorsements are:
- Lt. Governor — Rachel Hunt
- Attorney General — Jeff Jackson
- Commissioner of Agriculture — Steve Troxler
- Commissioner of Insurance — Mike Causey
- Secretary of State — Elaine Marshall
- State Superintendent of Public Instruction — Mo Green
- State Auditor — Jessica Holmes
EMPAC is a member-led PAC consisting of state employees and retirees from all over the state. A state committee makes endorsements after a careful process that includes in-person interviews with the candidates.
“I am proud of the State EMPAC Committee's endorsements this year,” said Statewide EMPAC Chairman Mark Dearmon. “After interviewing all statewide candidates who accepted our invitation, we have endorsed candidates who we feel will support state employees, retirees, and other working families. We feel these candidates will not be beholden to special interests but will support the citizens of North Carolina that they represent.”
SEANC is a 46,000-member association of state employees and retirees from all 100 counties in North Carolina that is committed to protecting and enhancing the rights and benefits of current, retired, and future state employees.
